Every Vedic activity has always have remained environment friendly. From not wearing a leather belt to eating vegetarian, performing yagnas always cleansed the environment.
Old traditions, rituals, medicines, contributed to a needlessness and selflessness because they were a product of nishkama karma-work without ego. The work always targeted maximum passion to benefit the nature and then the end user.
Vegetarian aka Shakahari is a strict requirement to reduce the load on the food pyramid.
Way back, community yajna was organized in Mathura which concentrated rain benefiting the farmers too.
There is still much to learn, and explore to benefit the world.
